BEACH
Roses offers a coastline full of
contrasts, with cliffs, isolated coves of
crystal clear waters and gently sloping,
fine sand beaches, ideal for families and
for the practice of all kinds of nautical
sports.
Natural beaches of Cape Creus natural park
Cala Jōncols
This virgin cove, of wild beauty and
approximately 190 m long, is 2 km from
the town centre of Roses. It is reached
along a road that skirts the coast around
the cape of Norfeu until arriving to
Jōncols. It is a cove made up of pebbles
and smooth boulders; the sea bed, which
slopes steeply is made up of the same kind
of stones and is ideal for diving (there
is a specialised centre there).

There are also rubbish bins at
the exits of the cove, signposts, an
embarkation point for tourist boats, a
terrace with parasols and a collapsible
pier.
Cala Calitjās
This small cove, 110 m long, surrounded by
cliffs and transparent waters, is 8 km
from Roses, between the coves of La Pelosa
and Montjoi. It is reached along the same
coast road which takes us beyond cape
Norfeu. It is a cove of coarse grey
coloured sand. The water here gets deep
quickly.

La Pelosa
Located beside the peninsula of cape
Norfeu, is one of Roses’ traditionally
popular coves. It is 9 km from Roses and
is approximately 90m long. Here there is
a fishermen’s ‘barraca’ (an old refuge
for sailors) and a small bar-restaurant
in which it is possible to enjoy all the
specialties that the Mediterranean sea
has to offer. The beach is of coarse
sand, with a steeply sloping sea bed. It
is 8 km from Roses, following the same
coastal road that leads to the coves of
Jōncols and Montjoi.

Canadell
A small , unspoilt, isolated cove, made up
of pebbles and small boulders, located
between the coves of Jōncols and Pelosa.
Not more than 60m long.It is about 10km
from Roses and does not have any
facilities, except for lifeguard
surveillance and cleaning.
Calís
Located between the coves of Montjoi and
Rostella. It is of reduced dimensions (50
m) and it consists of medium grained sand.
There are some who consider it to be a
small extension of the cove Montjoi,
since the only thing that separates them
are some rocks which protrude from the
sea.

Cala Montjoi
7 km from Roses, between the coves of
Calitjās and Calís. It is a large , much
frequented cove, 270 m long, ideal as
refuge for boats as well as for the
practice of the diving (there is a
specialist centre here)). Consisting of
coarse sand and pebbles, it has a steeply
sloping sea bed. There is a holiday
development here and the famous restaurant
‘El Bulli’, considered one of the most
select in the world and the winner of
three Michelin stars.

Calas Rostella y Murtra
These still virgin coves are of reduced
dimensions (100 and 120 m, respectively)
and with difficult land access. Very
solitary, they are surrounded by cliffs,
as a result of which the best access is by
boat. This difficulty of access transforms
them into two small paradises less than 7
km from Roses. With the object of
increasing the tourist capacity of the
municipality and to give space to all
kinds of tourists, the practice of nudism
has only been authorized in the Murtra
cove.
Residential
Beach
L’Almadrava
A 450m long beach, with fine sand and
turquoise blue waters. It is 5 km from
Roses, taking the road that goes from the
lighthouse to Falconera point. The fact
that it is protected from the northerly
winds is one of the factors that has
determined its great popularity amongst
swimmers. Since 1992 it has been awarded
the European Community Blue Flag for
water and service quality every year
except 1993.

Canyelles Petites
This cove is 3 km from the urban centre,
in the urbanization of Canyelles,
following the road that goes from Roses to
Falconera point. It is a 370 m long beach
of fine golden sand, clear waters and a
sandy sea bed, perfectly protected from
the north wind. Since 1995 it has had the
pride of receiving the European Community
Blue Flag every year.

Playa Bonifaci
Is a small cove located between
L'Almadrava and Canyelles. No more than
100m long, but offering all the charm of a
sheltered cove with crystal clear waters.

floating boat mooring, rubbish bins, drink
and ice-cream stall with tables and
parasols.
Playa Palangres
1 km from town centre of Roses, just below
the road that leads to the lighthouse. A
beach of 140 m of fine sand, with seabed
of sand and rocks, it is very popular
among the residents of Roses, since, next
to the sand, it has a small picnic area
under the shade of tamarisk trees, with
stone tables and benches and a fountain.

Urban Beaches
La
Punta
The beach of
La Punta is located in the
centre of Roses. It is a 550 m long beach,
consisting of very fine sand and not very
deep transparent waters, ideal for
families. It extends from the fishing port
to the river mouth of the Ginjolers
watercourse. Since 1996 it has had the
pride of having obtained the European
Community Blue Flag every year.

Playa de Roses
The main beach of Roses is divided into
three sectors: Nova beach, Rastrell beach
and Salatar beach, each separated from the
others by a stream. It has an overall
length of 1,790 m and extends from the
mouth of the Ginjolers watercourse to the
beach of Santa Margarida. It is a very
wide and much frequented beach, with fine
sand and not very deep water, ideal for
families and for the practice of water

Playa de Santa Margarida
Extends from Salatar beach to the mouth of
the residential marina of Santa Margarida.
It is a long, wide beach, of about 650 m,
with fine, golden sand of and clean, It is
popular with foreign holidaymakers, many
of whom have their second homes here. The
development of Santa Margarida is a first
order tourist centre ,made up of a marina
with 16km of navigable channels , an
unbeatable variety of accommodation
(hotels, campsites and apartments), a wide
gastronomically, commercial and
recreational variety, and an buzzing
nightlife.
